Comparison of cultural environment in Lakeus- and Napoli -areas Made by students of Upper Secondary School of Liminka, Finland and Liceo Scientifico Statale "F. Severi", Castellammare di Stabia, Italy. The aim of the project is to explore and compare cultural environment in Liminka and in Castellammare di Stabia. The work is done in two phases: first in Finland during the exchange of Italian students in September 2001 and the second of April 2001 during Finnish students exchange in Italy. The themes of the cultural environment which are studied are - natural environment as the base of the culture - the landscape of the countryside - roads and traffic as an expression of culture - school building as an expression of culture - gardens, farming and useful plants in local cuisine - window-frames as an expression of culture - doors as expression of culture Cultural environment Cultural environment is constructed by human being by transforming natural environment for human needs or it is completely build environment. Cultural environment have its natural, physical base: ground, water, air is always a part of the build environment. In Liminka the base of the cultural landscape is lowlands and Boreal forest humid climate. In Castellammare di Stabia the base of the landscape is volcanic, mountainous terrain with Mediterranean climate. Nature has given opportunities for human actions, in the past it have determined the places for dwellings, husbandry and other living conditions. Environment has formed in long-term interaction between human and nature. The build elements in environment are different constructions, buildings, routes, open spaces. The cultural environment express a living and rich history of the area, it emphasize distinctiveness of home district - it tell how former generations have lived, how they worked, build and used materials. Human actions can be seeing in cultural environment, it can be a scenic wholeness of riverside with houses, barnyards, roads and fields. Cultural environment is a town or village with market place, streets, courtyards, parks, industrial areas and shipyards. Also meadows, pastures, drain aged forest and swamps areas includes in cultural environment. Cultural environments creates aesthetical values, safety and comfortable space, it have historical and conservation values - also economical values. |
