TIINA-MARI CERAMICS WORKSHOP

Back to main

We visited Village Holidays in Ala-Temmes which includes the company called Tiina-Mari ceramics workshop. The owner Tiina-Mari Pietilä founded the company in the year 1992. She owns her own business and she is herself the main employer. The line of her business is a shop. She makes cups and all kind of ceramics things such as candlesticks, dishes and earrings of clay.

Her business idea is to make present products for shops and exhibitions. The places where you can buy Tiina-Mari´s ceramics are Pohjansome in Oulu and Nivalan Luontaistuote in Nivala. Buying is also possible straight from the workshop.

EU has supported Tiina-Mari´s workshop by giving her and her business some funds for making the company bigger. That is still her future, to expand the company step by step. She has to make something special, because cheaper products come from foreign countries. One have to work very hard for the pay. In the south of Finland one could easily earn more.

She has educated herself in claycasting and moldmaking courses in Kerava. And she has visited other similar manufacturing places learning some things there too.

This company is very environmentally friendly in recycling waste. In the future the company will be able to employ young people in summer, but she already employed a girl looking foor her children last summer.

Giving a toast to internationality?

Tiina-Mari´s workday is never the same. It depends on what she is doing. One day she makes cups and the other day she burns them and the next day she paints them.

She has a good relationship with the Liminka community. The community buys her products like little birds and oil lamps. She says that everybody is welcome to see her work and visit her ceramics workshop.
