Lumijoki is a lively small municipality on the seacoast between Oulu and Raahe. Lumijoki was officially founded in 1867. The number of the inhabitants is increasing, now it´s about 1700.

Lumijoki offers a safe living environment near Oulu. The building sites are large and the sky of flat land brings space for living. The city of Oulu is located only 38 km from Lumijoki.

Lumijoki is former sea bottom. The soil is rich in nutrients so it´s well suited for agriculture. The main production sectors are cultivating potatoes and grain and farming cows for milk production. Ecological farming, i.e. cultivating without any pesticides or artificial fertilizers, can be found in Lumijoki. The service sector, metal production and tourism liven up the economic life.

 The harbour of Varjakka offers an opportunity for fishing, swimming, paddling and sailing. The beautiful scenery opens to the sea. There are many boat places for fishermen and fun boaters in Varjakka.

Lumijoki offers excellent opportunities to nature activities. Our country´s most esteemed wetland area, Liminganlahti, is mainly located in the Lumijoki area. You can admire the bay´s nature in Sannanlahti or Puhkiavanperä birdwatching towers.

The citizens of Lumijoki who are interested in hunting can become members of the local hunting club. In that way they have great opportunities to enjoy their hobby.

Local enterprising is represented by bakeries, hairdressers, car- and machine repair shops, market garden, physiotherapist, several transportation companies, forest harvester manufacturer and a special snail farm. The local water company delivers fresh and excellent ground water to every house.
