On the 29th December in 1807 a parish meeting was held. People decided to build a new church because the old one had badly rotted and it was in such bad contition that it would have been useless to repair it. They decided to use some of the matherials from the previous church when they started to build the new one. In those days all the public buildings had to be built of stone. The reason was that they wanted to reduce fires and they also wanted to build all the buildings and statues in the kingdom with good taste. In the meeting they also decided that they would start to build a new church in a couple of years. And the new church would be done in the autumn in 1822. They decided to build the new church on the northern side of the old churchyard. When they started to make a thorough examination of the ground they noticed that the ground was too soft, and it would have been impossible to build a heavy stone church to Liminka. So they had to make a decision to build a wooden church.
